This week I have done schedule maintenance of a fire detection loop that includes manual call point, hooter etc. This loop also includes fire fighting system for two lube oil tank based on flame detection and deluge valve based high velocity water spray system.
As advised by a senior engineer, we have used cable lugs for connection of manual call points and hooter/ sounder to minimize unexpected earth fault, short circuit faults. We have also determined which types of cables lugs is appropriate for this loop.
After replacement all the connection that lacked cable lugs, we have checked the functionality of deluge system. We have calibrated the pressure gauges and pressure switches and found two defective and replaced them.
We have also checked the detection circuit, deluge valve pilot line SOV operation, checked its coil resistance etc. As there was no requirement of water release, by taking proper fire impairment permit, by isolating inlet and discharge valve we have checked the functionality covered by I&C department.
Working in field, sometimes we have to change plan as per field requirement or per issuance of permit. This enables learning continuously and broaded our practical knowledge.
